Digestive System Diseases:
- Appendicitis: An inflammation of the appendix, caused by an obstruction that makes bacteria multiply in the appendix.
- Celiac Disease: A disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. People with this disease are intolerant to gluten
- Cirrhosis: A condition in which the liver slowly deteriorates and malfunctions due to chronic injury. Mainly caused by alcoholism or obesity.
- Crohn's Disease: A disease that causes inflammation, or swelling, and irritation of any part of the digestive tract. Most commonly affects the ileum.
- Diverticulosis: A condition of having diverticula in the colon, pockets in the muscle layers of the colon wall.
- Salmonella Poisoning (Salmonellosis): A food poisoning caused by the Salmonella bacterium. Causes diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.
- Cholestasis: A condition where bile cannot flow from the liver to the duodenum. Caused by a gallstone or malignancy.
- Gastroenteritis: Inflammation of the lining of the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine casued by a virus. Symptoms are watery diarrhea and vomiting.
- Hepatitis: Inflammation of the liver caused by the presence of inflammatory cells in the tissue of the organ.
- Peptic Ulcers: Open sores that develop on the inside lining of your esophagus, stomach, and the upper portion of your small intestine. The most common symptom is abdominal pain.
