Musculoskeletal System
An organ system that gives the body the ability to move using both the skeletal and muscular system. This system provides support, stability, and movement to the body. It is made up of the body's bones , muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints, and other connective tissue that supports and binds tissues and organs together.
There are 206 bones in the body that provide support, store minerals and lipids, produce blood cells, protect body organs, and provide leverage and movement. There are 700 muscles in the body that make up half of person's body. The types of muscles include visceral muscle (makes organs contract to move substances through the organ), cardiac muscle (muscles in the heart that pump blood throughout the body), and skeletal muscle (voluntary muscles used in physical actions).
