Endocrine Diseases
- Addison’s disease: Deficiency of adrenal hormones. Produces too little cortisol and often insufficient levels of aldosterone as well.
- Cushings: An adrenal surplus. The body is exposed to high levels of the hormone cortisol for a long time, causing a "cushion" appearance on the body.
- Diabetes Insipidus: The pituitary gland doesn’t secrete enough anti-diuretic hormones.
- Diabetes Mellitus: The pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin or the body can’t use insulin properly.
- Hyperthyroidism: Overactive thyroid, causing sudden weight loss, a rapid or irregular heartbeat, sweating, and nervousness or irritability.
- Hypothyroidism: Too little of thyroid hormones. Can cause obesity, joint pain, infertility and heart disease.
- Goiter: When the thyroid gland grows larger than normal due to the over- or underproduction of thyroid hormones.
- Acromegaly: When the pituitary gland produces too much growth hormone during adulthood causing bones to increase in size.
- Dwarfism: A growth hormone deficiency causing an abnormally small stature.
