The Lungs:
- A pair of spongy, air-filled organs in the chest
- Include the bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli
- The lungs are covered in a thin tissue called pluera, along with the inside walls
- There is surfactant in the alveoli which reduces surface tension
- The air goes from the trachea to the bronchi, then to the bronchioles, and after to the alveoli. The exchange of of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place in the alveoli.
- The lungs have 5 lobes--3 in the right lung and 2 in the left to make room for the heart.
- Cilia (small hairs) in the lungs act as a brush, collecting large foreign particles that are inhaled
